ATV Mudding Essentials
One popular ATV activity is mudding. Many riders love the thrills that come with blazing through muddy terrain. But just because you have an all-terrain vehicle doesn’t mean you’re ready to take on the notoriously tricky wet terrain. Keep reading to see what essential gear you need to go mudding. If you want to buy a new quad, contact Sky Powersports Lakeland today. We are located in Lakeland, Florida and are proud to serve Tampa and Orlando!
Proper Gear
A big part of any successful four-wheel adventure is safety. Make sure you have a helmet that protects your head and fits snugly but comfortably. Just because mud is wet doesn’t mean falling in it won’t be dangerous. There can be plenty of rocks beneath the surface. Your helmet needs to be crash test certified and ideally is a full face helmet.
You’ll also want to wear durable clothes that cover all parts of your body when you ride your ATV. Don’t forget gloves, goggles, and sturdy boots!
Snorkel Kits
After you protect yourself, it’s time to protect your four-wheeler! The biggest threat when mudding is the moisture that gets into the exhaust pipe and engine. There may be times where you find half of your quad submerged! If water gets into your exhaust system and engine, it could kill the rig. Investing in a snorkel kit will help ensure that the parts of your ATV that need to be dry will stay dry. This is thanks to the extended air intakes, CVT inlets, and outlet exhausts.
Mud Tires
One useful four-wheeler upgrade is mud tires. Although you have an all-terrain vehicle, that doesn’t mean the standard features are perfect for every situation. Standard tires may not give you the necessary traction for tackling those muddy trails. Mud tires are bigger so they won’t sink as fast, and they also provide generously spaced lugs to keep your machine afloat. Getting specialized tires for your quad can really enhance your riding experience.
Mudguard Kits
Mudguard kits are similar to mud flaps and can be a great addition to your ATV. The plastic fender extensions will help reduce spray and provide your machine with some more protection too.
Hopefully these tips will help you have a safe and successful mudding adventure on your ATV!
